ST. ALBANS – Maxine Ethelyn (Cook) Manson, 88, died March 10, 2005, at an Augusta health care facility. She was Dec. 28, 1916, at St. Albans, a daughter of Wallace Burton “Burt” and Lydie Maydell (Spaulding) Cook, formerly of St. Albans and Hartland. She married Howard Lyle Manson in 1936, and had six children. While married to Howard, she lived in numerous towns. They moved from Connecticut to Canaan in 1954, where she resided for 29 years while working at Norrwock Shoe Company in Skowhegan. After retiring, she moved in 1982 to Benton, and in 1992, moved to Norridgewock to reside with one of her sons, Douglas and his wife, Carmen. In February 2000, she moved into senior housing at Seton Village in Waterville. In July 2003, Maxine moved to the Glenridge Nursing Home in Augusta. She was a Life Member of the Sunrise Chapter No. 75, Order of the Eastern Star in Canaan, where she was a very active member, serving as Secretary for 21 years, district No. 9 Deputy Grand Matron, Grand Electa in the Grand Chapter, and Grand Representative to New Hampshire. Maxine is survived by her children, Shelva Jean and husband, Alan Goodridge, of Newport and Cape Coral, Fla., James Howard and wife, Betty Manson, of Fairfield Center, Ronald Joseph and wife, Mary Manson, of Winslow, Douglas Gene and wife, Carmen Manson, of Randolph, and Gary Clyde Manson of Skowhegan; 17 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Madeline Reardon of Dexter and Massachusetts and Shirley Staples of Farmingdale. She was predeceased by her husband in 1962; a son, Robert Burton Manson in 1971; and a brother, Roland Haskell Cook in 2001. A private funeral and graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland. Memorial donations may be made to Sunset Chapter No. 53, Skowhegan OES which merged with the Sunrise Chapter, care of Phillis Russakoff, 101 Norridgewock Avenue, Skowhegan, ME 04976.
