BERNARD – Lenore Closson, 74, died April 15, 2004, at MDI Hospital. She was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Dorchester, Mass., the daughter of Lester Francis and Mary M. (Monroe) Chessman. Lenore was well known for her cake decorating and playing Mrs. Santa Claus locally. She worked many years at local restaurants and Summit House Nursing Home as a cook. She was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Pythian Sisters, Tremont Ladies Aid, Millay Study Club, the Tremont Women’s Club and she was past member of the Captains Association, USCG Auxiliary. Lenore is survived by her husband of 49 years, Lawrence Closson; three sons, Lester Sr. and Beth of Bass Harbor, Lee and Andrea of Bernard and Lance and Michelle of West Tremont; two daughters, Lesa and Bob of Orland and Lori and Charlie of Bass Harbor; one sister, Mildred M. Gordius of Bass Harbor; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; special friends, Jean Starr, Frank Goodwin and Susan Closson. Friends are invited to call 3-5 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2004, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 19, with the Rev. Wayne Buchanan officiating. Interment will be at Head of Harbor Cemetery, Bass Harbor. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lenore’s memory may be made to the Ladies Aid, Bass Harbor, ME 04653.
