MILBRIDGE – Leigh Burgess, 64, died unexpectedly Jan. 8, 2007, at his home. He was born Sept. 11, 1942, in Milbridge, the son of the late Charles and Jennie (Strout) Burgess. He attended and graduated high school in Milbridge. His pride and joy were his five children and grandchildren. He loved fishing and spending time with his family and close friend, Maurice Seavey. He was self-employed all of his life working as a worm digger, wreath maker, blueberry raker and wood splitting to name a few. He is survived by his five children, Angel McAlpine of Bangor, Darin and his wife, Karen, of Harrington, Enoch and his wife, Stacey, of Columbia Falls, Tarra and her husband, Timmy Merchant, of Addison and Jason and his wife, Tammie, of Milbridge; their mother, Dolly Jordan; 12 grandchildren, Tonya Jewitt and her husband, Chris, Nicholas, Derek, Kevin, Thomas and his wife, Amanda, Enoch Jr., Justin, Ryan, Laney, Helen, Haley and Jason Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Jordain, CJ and Ashley; nine sisters, Roberta Wynegar of Massachusetts, Eleanor Matthews, Iona Burke, Maxine Carter, Venelva Ray, Peggy Freeman, Lottie Burgess, Lorna Burgess and Vicky Batson, all of Maine and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters, Donna Joyce and Nancy Moores; and by three brothers, Robert, Keith and Charles “Boogie” Burgess. Services will be held noon Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Church of Christ church, Route 1A, Milbridge, with Pastor Owen Beal officiating. There are no visiting hours.
