WESLEY and LUBEC Karen (Jones) Carroll, 61, died Aug. 18, 2007, at Courtland Living and Rehab-ilitation Center, Ellsworth, after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS. She was born April 9, 1946, at ADA Maloney’s Maternity Home, West Lubec, to Alexander and Gwendolyn (Johnson) Jones. She graduated from Lubec High School in 1964, Golden School of Beauty Culture, Portland, in 1965 and the University of Maine – Machias in 1995. Karen moved to Mississippi in 1969, where she made many long time friends, retiring from the Army Corps of Engineers in 1986. After returning to Maine, Karen worked at Machias Motor Inn from 1995 until her retirement in 2006. Karen was a member of Christian Temple Disciples Church of Christ, Lubec, and Emmanuel Baptist Church, Vicksburg, Miss. Karen is survived by her mother, Gwendolyn (Jones) Wasson of Lubec; her twin sister, Sharen and her husband, David Kilton, of Machias and Micco, Fla.; a long time companion and very special friend, Tonya Riley of Wesley; stepdaughters, Stephanie Jierski and family of Vicksburg, Miss., and Dee Ward and family of Baton Rouge, La.; nephews, Paul Kilton and family of Woburn, Mass., and Dean Kilton and family of Delaware, Ohio; several special aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her father, Alexander Jones in 1972; her brother, David Jones in 2001. A celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Christian Temple Church of Christ, Lubec, with the Rev. Alan Andraes officiating. It was Karen’s wish that those wishing to make donations in her memory do so to the ALS Association, NNE Chapter, Concord Center, 10 Ferry St., Suite 438, P.O. Box 314, Concord, NH 03301, to assist in their research or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
