PERHAM – Joseph Sousa Bettencourt, 89, a former, long time North Andover, Mass. resident died March 2, 2005, at his home in Maine. Born in Taunton, Mass., to the late Manuel and Mary (Duarte) Bettencourt, he was the youngest of 13 children. He served in the Massachusetts National Guard. Mr. Bettencourt was a machinist for many years at Davis and Furber Co. in North Andover. He then worked in Missile Testing For Raytheon and AVCO. Most recently, he was employed by the North Andover School Department. He was a Boy Scout Leader, Sea Scout Leader and he coached Little League baseball. He was a member of the North Andover Senior Center, St. Michael’s Church in North Andover and the Knights of Columbus, Msgr. Shea Council 3819 in North Andover. He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann (Pilot) Bettencourt, of Perham; two sons, John (Jack) Bettencourt of Miami, Fla., David and his wife, Cheryl Bettencourt, of Williamsburg, Va.; three daughters, Carol and her husband, Rick, of Londonderry, N.H., JoAnne Zilonis of Methuen, Mass., Lynda and her husband, Ray Crowell, of Bordentown, N.J.; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to a funeral Mass 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Michael’s Church, 196 Main St., North Andover. Burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery.
