BELFAST – Joseph D. Staples, 87, died April 23, 2005, at a Belfast hospital. He was born June 11, 1917, at Belfast, the son of Dana and Emily (Page) Staples. Joe was a graduate of Crosby High School, Class of 1934. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war he worked for the post office for 32 years retiring in 1981. Joe was past master of Frederick Ritchie Grange in Waldo and a 7th Degree Granger. He was also a member and past Sachem of the Tarratine tribe No. 13 of I.O.R.M. After retiring from the post office Joe was an avid bee keeper and was active in the tri county as well as the state bee keeper’s organizations. He was the person to call in Belfast for people who had a problem with swarms of bees. He was predeceased by a great-grandson, Daniel Moors. Joe is survived by his wife of 58 Years, Doris I. (Fellows) Staples; three sons, Dana R. and his wife, Denise Staples, of Beverly, Mass., Richard J. and his wife, Deborah Staples, of Waterville and their children, Elizabeth, Katherine, and Jonathan Staples; Robert A. and his wife, Susan Staples, of Bangor and their children, Rebecca and her husband, Joshua Moors, and Meredith Staples; great-grandchildren, Allison and Brianna Moors. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Friends who wish may donate to the Daniel Moors memorial fund at the First Baptist Church, 56 Center St., Bangor.
