FRANKLIN and ISLAND FALLS – Jean B. Edwards, 88, died peacefully July 31, 2007, at Eleanor Widener Dixon Memorial Clinic, Gouldsboro. She was born July 9, 1919, in Oakfield, the daughter of Ray and Mildred (Crandall) Brown. Jean attended Merrill High School, Merrill, and Husson College, Bangor. During World War II she worked at Pratt & Whitney, Hartford, Conn., making ball bearings in support of the war effort. She later worked at Milliken Memorial Hospital, until its closure and then Green Valley School, both in Island Falls. Jean was an avid “fisherwoman” on Pleasant Pond, keeping journals of salmon caught and released at the lake for the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. These journals provided valuable information to the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife for stocking the lake with additional salmon. She spent many peaceful hours enjoying her favorite pastime, fishing for salmon on Pleasant Pond. Jean had a special love for all animals, especially cats and had the opportunity to provide a wonderful loving home to many over the years. Jean is survived by two children, a son, Hollis Edwards of Winterport; a daughter, Lea and her husband, Roger Lane, of Franklin; her dearly loved grandchildren, a grandson, Seth Edwards and fiancee, Laura Barnes, of East Holden; granddaugters, Racquel Bragdon along with Michal Jurilj, both of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Yvette Bragdon and Chris Larsen of Los Angles; stepgrandchildren, Rachel Martin and her husband, Blake, of Sullivan, Darci Lane of Bangor and Amber Lane of Portland; two very special granddogs, Schoodic and Mr. MacGregor “Greggie” of Franklin, who never missed an opportunity to go with Jean and Lea for good coffee lunch and ice cream. She was predeceased by a brother, Leland Brown of Oakfield; a sister, Betty Kline of Rutland, Vt.; and former husband and father of her children, Keith Edwards of Island Falls. The family wishes to thank special friends and fishing companions, Dean and Jane Fitzgerald, Ted and Carolyn Roberts, Dick and Joanne Porter, Edie Dwyer and Shelia Smith. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at “Hollis’s Place” on Pleasant Pond. Family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Island Falls Library, Island Falls, ME 04747 or to SPCA, 141 Bar Harbor Road, Trenton, ME 04605. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
