HORACE ‘JIM’ C. MCCURDY JR.

ALEXANDER – Horace “Jim” C. McCurdy Jr., 79, died unexpectedly in his sleep Aug. 23, 2005. Jim was born in Baring, Dec. 16, 1925, son of the late Horace and Martha (Preston) McCurdy Sr. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Japan with the 1st Cavalry. He was employed by St. Croix Paper and Georgia Pacific. Jim was a member of Lewy’s Island Lodge No. 138 AF & AM for more than 25 years and enjoyed playing music with his friends, especially his “Kitchen Picken” at people’s homes. He also played for local benefits and nursing homes. Jim was predeceased by a son, Allen McCurdy; granddaughter, April Hansen, grandson, Jimmie McCurdy; and a sister, Lizzie Griffin. Surviving are his wife of more than 57 years, Dorothy (Matthews) McCurdy; a daughter, Ruth Kidder and friend, Robert O’Donnell, of Charlotte; three sons, Clifford McCurdy of New Hampshire, Barry McCurdy of Old Town, and Lee McCurdy and wife, Crystal, of Biddeford; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, in Woodland Cemetery, Baileyville. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais. Friends may pay tribute at www.maysfuneralhome.com
