BANGOR – Helen (Gallupe) McLaughlin, 93, wife of the late Carl G. McLaughlin, died Jan. 1, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 31, 1914, in Lakeview, daughter of Murray D. and Vivian (Barchard) Gallupe. Helen was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1931 and Maine School of Commerce, now Husson College. She was employed as a secretary for Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Bangor for 20 years and as a secretary bookkeeper in the recorder’s office of Anah Shriners for 20 years. Helen was a member of Sunshine Club for Children for many years. Surviving are a son, Bruce C. McLaughlin and his wife, Linda, of Searsmont; two granddaughters, Lori M. Gibbons and her husband, Joseph, of Ellsworth, and Kate M. Craig and her husband, Jason, of Eddington; great-grandsons, Aidan J. Gibbons, Zackery R. Gibbons, Ian D. Craig, as a well as a new great-grandson, Jack T. Craig, expected in January; three brothers, Donald Gallupe and his wife, Patricia, of Bangor, Robert Gallupe and his wife, Irmgard, of California, Richard Gallupe and his wife, Kathleen; and one sister, Constance G. Holling, all of Hermon. In addition to her parents and her husband, Carl, she was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Thurston; and brothers, Clifford F. Gallupe and Arthur D. Gallupe. A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Kathy Macedo, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church of Bangor, officiating. Spring interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service Saturday at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
