HARTLAND – Harry D. Sides, 78, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at the Dexter Health Care Facility. He was born March 4, 1928, in Sherman, the son of Montelle W. and Gladys E. (James) Sides. Harry had been a self-employed woodsman for most of his life, working for various lumbering operations. He had been a resident of Hartland for the past 40 years and previously lived in Sherman. He was a previous member of the Masonic Lodge, Sherman. In 2004, Harry received the 2004 Hartland Citizen’s Award from the Town of Hartland. It was presented to him by a very special friend, Harry Gould, whom he had mentored as a youth. “The wisdom and knowledge you have given to many of our youth growing up in the community has not gone unnoticed.” A son, Steven Douglas Sides; two brothers, Kirk and Odell Sides; and a sister, Elsie Tyler predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Viola J. (Neal) Sides of Hartland; three sons, Dana Everett Sides of Pennsylvania, Howard Dean Sides and his wife, Geneva, of St. Albans and Montelle William “Boo” Sides and his wife, Darlene, of Hartland; a daughter, Evelena “Lena” Mae Huffman of Hartland; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane Humphrey of Wilcott, Conn.; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the First Baptist Church, Hartland. A graveside committal will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Sherman Mills Cemetery.
