GLADYS H. PREBLE

PROSPECT HARBOR and MILBRIDGE – Gladys H. Preble, 85, died Oct. 10, 2004, after a long illness at Narragagus Bay Heath Care Facility. She was born May 31, 1919, in Prospect Harbor, the daughter of Irving and Hattie (Hutchings) Moore. Gladys lost her mother when she was 11 years old and was raised by her mother’s sister, who was her name sake, and later became her step-mother, Gladys Hutchings Moore. She is survived by three sons, Irving Cowperthwaite, and wife, Diane, of Birch Harbor, Shelton Cowperthwaite, and wife, Joyce, of Cherryfield, Lawrence Preble of Ellsworth; two daughters, Mary Anne C. Ring, and husband, Lester, of Eddington, Ella C. Merchant, and husband, Sherman, of Prospect Harbor, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by husbands, Covert Cowperthwaite and Henry Preble; a son, Earle Cowperthwaite Sr., and wife, Lottie; and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Cowperthwaite. A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at the family lot in the Prospect Harbor Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff at Narragagus Bay Heath Care Facility for her wonderful care, love, and kindness.
