HAMPDEN – Georgia (Brountas) Leakos of Hampden, a summer resident of Lucerne-in-Maine, died Feb. 18, 2005, at a Brewer healthcare facility after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born in Bangor, the daughter of Peter and Penelope (Spiropoulos) Brountas. Georgia was a graduate of Bangor High School and Maine School of Commerce now Husson College. She was a lifelong member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and past president of the Ladies’ Philoptochos Society of the church. Georgia was also a former member of the Board of Directors of the YWCA of Bangor and the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association of Husson College. She was a member of the Junior League of Bangor and Tuscan Chapter No. 148 OES of Bangor. Georgia’s greatest joy came from giving pleasure to others. A wonderful cook, she entertained many friends at her home. She was an avid gardener and spent many hours cultivating the flowers and plants surrounding her home. She also enjoyed water skiing on Philips Lake, playing tennis with her friends and snowskiing with her family. Georgia is survived by and will be greatly missed by her husband, Louis G. Leakos of Hampden; two daughters, Elaine D. Leakos and Penelope Leakos, both of West Roxbury, Mass.; two sons, George L. Leakos of Brewer and Christopher P. Leakos of Hampden; one sister, Helen B. Nichols, of Roslindale, Mass.; four brothers, Nicholas P. Brountas, George P. Brountas, Arthur P. Brountas, all of Bangor, and Paul P. Brountas of Weston, Mass.; two grandchildren, Nicholas G. Leakos and Dianna N. Leakos; and her longtime friends, Hank and Gloria Waldron of Bangor, who provided much loving care and support to Georgia during her illness. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Sanford Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Fr. Adam P. Metropoulos Presbyter, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
