MACHIAS – Frederic A. Reynolds, 78, passed away Oct. 10, 2005, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Machias, the son of the late Alphonso J. Reynolds Sr. and Evangeline L. (Bagley) Reynolds. Fred served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and also during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Machias High School and Washington State Normal School. Fred received a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from the University of Maine at Orono. He worked at the University of Maine at Machias for nearly 40 years serving as coach, professor, dean of student affairs, vice president of academic affairs, finishing his career as president of the University. Following his retirement from UMM he served on the board of trustees for the University of Maine System. Fred was a member of the board of directors at Machias Savings Bank for more than 30 years, most recently serving as chairman. He was a longtime member of the Machias Rotary and the Harwood Lodge. Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends on Chain Lake and Bog Lake. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Norma (Parlin) Reynolds; two sons, Donald Reynolds and wife, Lisa, of Machias and Alan Reynolds and wife, Laura, of Vassalboro; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Reynolds of Machias; four grandchildren, Michelle Ahuja and husband, Anoop, of Houston, Kate and Ali Reynolds of Vassalboro and Scott Reynolds of Machias; sister, Abby Getchell and husband, Raymond, of Marshfield; sisters-in-law, Faye Reynolds of Machias, Rebecca Reynolds of East Machias, Barbara Sawyer of Machias, and Patricia Parlin of Zephyrhills, Fla.; special niece, Ann Sawyer of Lucerne; and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Thomas Reynolds in 2003 and Steven Reynolds in 1998; and four brothers, Morris, Judson, Alphonso Jr. and John Henry. Visiting hours will take place 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005 at the Frederic A. Reynolds Athletic and Education Center at the University of Maine, Machias. Following the funeral service, friends are invited for a gathering at Portside in Kimball Hall. A family committal service will be held at Longfellow Cemetery.
