GLENBURN – Ethelyn R. “Essie” Alexander, 74, wife of the late Calvin S. Alexander, died Jan. 27, 2005, after a long illness at a Bangor hospital with her family at her side. She was born Feb. 8, 1930, in Glenburn, the daughter of Fred A. and Rowena M. (Sawyer) Thayer. A dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and sister, Essie is survived by four children and their families, Shirley Corson, Donnie Alexander and David Alexander, all of Glenburn and Kim MacManus of Hermon; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris R. Phillips of Hermon; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years; an infant daughter, Celia Alexander; and eight brothers and sisters. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Rick Snell, associate pastor of the Bangor Baptist Church, officiating. Burial in the spring will be at Birch Grove Cemetery, Glenburn at a time to be announced.
