INDIAN ISLAND – Elwin M. Sapiel Sr. 64, passed away Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at a Bangor nursing facility following a long illness. He was born Sept. 18, 1940, on Indian Island, the son of the late Evelyn (Glossian) Sapiel. He is survived and will be sadly missed by three sons, Elwin M. Sapiel Jr. of Newport, N.H., Kevin Sapiel of Rochester, N.H., and Evan Sapiel currently serving in Iraq; daughter June Sapiel of Nashua, N.H.; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, John Sammy Sapiel of Falmouth, Mass.; two sisters, Patricia Lizzotte of Wallingford, Conn., and Viola Cotta of Indian Island; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by a son, Donald Sapiel; sister, Phyllis McGrain; four brothers, Walley Peahrson, Bobcat Glossian, Frances Sapiel and Michael Crawford. Friends may call 2 p.m. Thursday until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ann’s Church on Indian Island in Old Town with the Rev. Paul Kerns officiating. Committal will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at the Tribal Cemetery on Indian Island.
