ELENOR K. HINCKLEY BANGOR – Elenor (Keyes) Hinckley passed away Sept. 13, 2008, at a Bangor nursing facility. Elenor was born Sept. 15, 1925, in Orland, the daughter of the late Glen and Augustus (Gross) Keyes. Elenor married Paul Hinckley and moved to Penobscot to raise his two daughters and later, their two children as well. Elenor was very active in Penobscot Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, sang in the choir and was a member of The Bagaduce Club. She moved to Holden after the death of her husband and became a member of Clifton Baptist Church, singing there in the choir as well. Elenor worked many years in the medical field as a certified nurses’ aide, working at Castine Hospital for Dr. Robert Russell and Orland Medical Center. After retiring, she worked part time at Brewer Veterinary Clinic and volunteered at Eastern Maine Medical Center. She traveled with Dr. Russell’s wife, Doris, to Europe twice during their husbands and Elenor’s daughter’s tenure at Maine Maritime Academy. They would meet at their “Port of Calls” to enjoy holidays together. She had a great time acting and singing with the Y-Players under the direction of Pam Martin. Elenor loved to read, cook, play cards and scrabble, but especially enjoyed spending time with her children. She loved animals, especially her beloved horse, Prince, whom she rode all over the countryside and in several parades and shows. Elenor is survived by a daughter, Dola Hinckley and partner, Nancy Hatch, of Clif-ton, who she loved as a daughter; son, Daniel Hinckley of Blue Hill (“My mother, my friend”); stepdaughter, Peggy Arbuckle and husband, Bill, of Penobscot; several stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Paul Hinckley; sisters, Marie Grindle and Dola Mooney; brother-in-law, Homer Mooney; stepdaughter, Pauline (Hinckley) Gray; and stepson-in-law, David Astbury. A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Clifton Baptist Church, Route 9, Clifton, with Pastor John Walsh officiating. The family welcomes any memories, stories or events that friends and loved ones would like to share of Elenor. A gathering will be held immediately after at the church dining hall, where family and friends may share in light refreshments and a continued time of remembrance.
