BANGOR – Edith (Beam) Apgar, 103, of Bangor, wife of the late James Harold Apgar, died Dec. 7, 2004, at the Island Nursing Home, Deer Isle. Edith was born June 22, 1901, in Califon, N.J., the daughter of George S. and Mahala (Beam) Beam. She resided in New Jersey before coming to Maine in January of 1967. Edith was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bangor and the Bangor/Brewer YWCA. Surviving are a daughter, Eleanor M. Becht and her husband, John Henry Becht Jr. of Hancock; one grandson, John Henry Becht III and his wife, Tina of Glenburn; nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at the Fairmount Cemetery, Fairmount, N.J., with the Rev. Richard K. Gelson, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Fairmount, officiating. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Activity Fund of the Island Nursing Home, 587 North Deer Isle Road, Deer Isle 04627; or the Memorial Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex St., Bangor.
