GROTON, Mass. – A service of remembrance and celebration for the life of D.W. Caldwell will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at First Congregational Church, Millinocket. The service will be a time of story telling by anyone who would like to speak interspersed with music. There will be a reception at the church after the service. Dee loved Ktaadn and Baxter Park. He did his Ph.D. fieldwork in the park and used the park and Ktaadn as one study area for his summer Geology Field courses. He also had numerous research projects in the park. Each of Dee’s children made their first ascent of the mountain in a chair on Dee’s back. Everyone is invited to spend time Tuesday in Baxter Park remembering Dee in his favorite haunts. Gifts in memory of Dee may be sent to the Rand/Caldwell Fund to promote student research at the Geological Society of Maine, 17 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333.
