HAMPDEN – Douglas Vincent Nelson, 46, a commercial pilot of Hampden, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, in Swanzey, N.H., due to injuries sustained in a plane crash. Born in Providence, he was a son of George W. Nelson Jr. of LaBelle, Fla. and Barbara A. (Long) Nelson of Westerly. He had lived in Hope, R.I. before moving to Maine a year ago. Mr. Nelson had been a commercial pilot for Air-Now in Bennington, Vt. for 10 years. He enjoyed flying, parachuting, sky diving, and riding his motorcycle. In addition to his parents, he is also survived by two daughters, Jessica Lee Nelson and Melanie Marie Nelson, both of Warwick; a brother, William M. Nelson of Ft. Myers, Fla.; three sisters, Lori A. Nelson of Delray Beach, Fla., Nicki A. Nelson of East Greenwich, and Wendy M. Nelson of Elk Grove, Calif.; and two granddaughters, Lindsey M. Nelson and Selina L. F. Nelson, both of Warwick. He was the grandfather of the late Alec James Nelson. Calling hours will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday in The Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Greenwood, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95).
