BREWER – Dorothy J. (West) Merritt, 54, died at her Brewer home June 7, 2004, after a long illness, surrounded by her family. She was born July 31, 1949, in Portland, the daughter of Clyde and Jessie (Gilpatric) West. She was a self-employed local business owner with her husband, Del. Dorothy enjoyed her family, gardening, raising canaries, and trips to the coast. She is survived by her husband, Delano “Del” Merritt of Brewer; one son and his wife, James B. Cyr and Laurie of South Portland; one daughter, Tammy J. Cyr of Hampden; her stepdaughter, Deborah Lagasse of Bangor; one sister and her husband, Grace and Walter Parker of Westbrook; her brother and his wife, Clyde West and Jody of Bangor; seven grandchildren, Meghan Cyr, Brianna Russo, Brady Cyr, Madison Cyr, Nathan Daigle, Shannon Young, Albe Lagasse; several nieces and nephews; special friends, “Little Del,” Cheryl Foss, Roby Ross, Gil and Pat Andrei, and Betty Brehm. She was predeceased by her son, Troy A. Cyr; and stepson, Stephen G. Merritt. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Gertrude Stone, Chaplain of New Hope Hospice, officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
