WASHBURN – Doris Aileen (Gregg) Tarr, 89, wife of the late Sterling L. Tarr, passed away Oct. 8, 2004, at Presque Isle. She was born Jan. 19, 1915, at Castle Hill, the daughter of Carvey Wilmot and Ethel May (James) Gregg. She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1930 and the Aroostook State Normal School in 1932. After graduation, she taught in several one-room schools in the area. Doris and Sterling were married in 1939 and farmed on the Washburn Road for many years. She will be remembered for her love of nature, her long walks on the farm and her love of books and poetry. She attended the First Baptist Church in Washburn. Doris is survived by her two sons, David Tarr and his wife, Nancy and Michael Tarr, both of Washburn; one sister, Avis Gradie of Putnum, Conn.; her grandchildren, Karen (Tarr) Flewelling, Mark Tarr, James Tarr, Sarah Tarr and Andrew Tarr; great-grandchildren, Melissa and Jennifer Flewelling and Zoe Tarr; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Sterling in 1985; her granddaughter, Ellen Tarr; a brother, Floyd Gregg; six sisters, Faye and Fern Gregg, Ethel Winslow, Violet McIntire, Glennys Kenney and Winona Vannah. Private family services will be held at the Crouseville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to the Washburn Memorial Library. Funeral arrangements are by the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.
