BANGOR – Donald Wesley McKinnon Sr., 87, passed away gently May 21, 2007, at a local hospital. He was born April 30, 1920, in Bangor, to William Stanley and Victoria (Pelkey) McKinnon. Donald attended Bangor schools, graduating from Bangor High School in 1938. He joined the Navy and served during World War II from 1942 to 1945 in the South Pacific. After the war he worked for the U.S. Railway Mail Service. During the 1950s and 1960s he built several houses and later turned to restoring some of Bangor’s finer historic homes and converting them into apartments. After retiring, he enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. Donald was predeceased by his parents; an infant brother, William Stanley McKinnon Jr.; and a sister, Mildred McKinnon Savage. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beverly Dunbar (Ingalls) McKinnon; two sons, Donald W. McKinnon Jr. and his wife, Jessica Fellows McKinnon, of Bangor, and Andrew Ian McKinnon and his wife, Helen Qualey McKinnon, also of Bangor and their sons, Ian Andrew, Devon William, and Regan Qualey McKinnon; two sisters, Ruth McKinnon Lovering of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and her family and Harriette McKinnon Tilley of Bangor and her family. A family service and interment will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Mount Hope Cemetery. Gifts in his memory may be made to Bangor Public Library, 145 Harlow St., Bangor, ME 04401.
