DENNIS B. ELKINS THORNDIKE – Dennis B. Elkins, 60, of Thorndike, died on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003 at Eastern Maine Medi-cal Center in Bangor after a brief illness. He was born in Thorndike, Feb. 10, 1943, a son of Clair B. and Grace D. (Wingate) Elkins. He attended and graduated from schools in Thorndike. He entered the U.S. Air Force on Aug. 25, 1960, and was honorably discharged on March 1, 1962. He was member and past commander of the Benjamin-Berry American Legion Post No. 50 in Unity. On Sept. 10, 1965, he married the former Joyce Reynolds and they have shared 38 years together. For many years he worked at the former Warren Brothers and now Tilcon Industries as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and making maple syrup. He also loved being with his family, especially his grandson Nicholas. He also enjoyed the family’s Black Lab, Simone. He was a father to many. He was predeceased by his father, Clair B. Elkins. Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Reynolds) Elkins of Thorndike; his son, Paul Elkins and his wife, Dorene, of Thorndike; grandson which is his pride and joy, Nicholas J. Elkins of Thorndike; his mother, Grace D. (Wingate) Elkins of Thorndike; two sisters, Doreen Wheeler and her husband, Robert, of Winslow, and Joyce Cronk of Fairfield; many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters in-law, and brothers-in-law. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at the Lawry Brothers Memorial and Remembrance Centre (Unity Centre for the Performing Arts) 42 Depot St., Unity, where a funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, with Randy Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at Rogers Cemetery in Troy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Joyce Elkins, 580 Files Road, Thorndike, ME 04986.
