BANGOR – A kind and adventurous individual, who many people were drawn to, died after a long illness at the Maine Veterans’ Home early Sunday morning, July 9, 2006. Born June 15, 1924, in Old Town, Corinne was the daughter of Francis X. and Lucy McGrath Sweeney. Corinne was educated in the Bangor school system and graduated from John Bapst High School in 1942. She retired from the New England Telephone Co. after 26 years. Corinne then spent many years working on a variety of committees as well as volunteering her services at St. Mary’s Church, the Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, the Fourteenth St. School as “Gammy” Sargent and was a loan executive for the United Way. Corinne traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe with her husband and close friends. Corinne is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert Sargent; a son, Christopher Sargent of Holden; her two daughters, Julie Logan and her husband, John and Anna H. Woolley and her husband, T. Russell; her grandchildren, Kathryn Yerxa and her husband, Rob, Andrew Logan, Kyle Woolley, Erin Woolley; her great-granddaughter, Zoe Corinne Yerxa; her brother, Frances X. Sweeney; her beloved sister, Anna and her husband, Charles Waddell; as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by many loved ones. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Maine Veterans’ Home and especially to Merlita Kingsbury for her constant care, love and support. Relatives and friends may visit 3-6 p.m. Tuesday at Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor presider. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in memory of Corinne to the Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, care of St. Mary’s Church, 754 Ohio St., Bangor, ME 04401.
