SOUTHWEST HARBOR Charles M. “Charlie” Gilley, 81, died Feb. 27, 2006, at a Bar Harbor healthcare facility. He was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Southwest Harbor, the son of Harvey Florian and Mabel (Staples) Gilley. Charlie lived in Southwest Harbor most of his life. He was a lobster fisherman, an outboard motor mechanic and he owned and operated the Boathouse in Manset. He loved island basketball, was an avid golfer, enjoyed life and his breakfasts at Kozy Cove Restaurant. Charlie was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his two sons, Charles “Chad” Gilley and wife, Sandra and Glenn R. Gilley and wife, Amy, of Southwest Harbor; his daughter, Candy Perkins of Ellsworth; and eight grandchildren, Christopher, James, Pamela, Thomas, Wayne, Gregory, Ariel and Julie Marie. Charlie was predeceased by his wife, Christine (Bulmer) Gilley; two brothers and two sisters, Wally, Carlton, Edith Alley and Enola Farmer. Services of remembrance will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 3, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, with the Rev. Malcolm MacDuffie, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor. Contributions in Charlie’s memory may be made to the Southwest Harbor Animal Shelter, care of Bess Gray, P.O.
