CRITZ, VA. – Mr. Charles Deane Kihlmire, 68, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, near his home on Via Orchard Rd., Critz, Va. He was born May 3, 1936, in Schenectady, N.Y., the son of the late Charles Victor Kihlmire and Elizabeth Andrus Kihlmire Callahan. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as an aircraft crew chief, and was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Kihlmire was self-employed most of his life, operating, a chain of service stations in the Boston, Mass. area before moving to Martinsville, Va., in 1970, where he operated a service station in Rich Acres, Va. He owned several NASCAR modified racecars before joining the U’Haul Rental Systems and Jartan Rentals, and then, as a self-employed contractor. Mr. Kihlmire is survived by his wife, Patricia Green Kihlmire of the home; two sons, David C. Kihlmire of Afton, Va., and C. Scott Kihlmire of Brosville, Va.; three daughters, Kristi Kihlmire of Axton, Va., Julia Garcia of Brosville, Va., and Elizabeth Kihlmire of Stuart, Va.; two stepsons, Calbert Wayne Mullis Jr., and wife, Rudy, of Claudsville, Va., and Marty Mullis and wife, Angela, of Mt. Alary, N.C.; three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, four step granddaughters, and two great-grandsons. A graveside service was held Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005.
