STILLWATER – Surrounded by loving family and close friends, Brenda L. Sibley was relieved of her pain Oct. 25, 2005, after gallantly confronting cancer for the third time. She was born Jan. 30, 1956, in Bangor, a daughter of Ora Jr. and Anna (Hatt) Thurston. Brenda’s strength and courage never waived and she bravely faced her challenges, always keeping a positive attitude. Brenda worked for many years at Wadleigh’s store and prior to her most recent illness at Carey’s Market. Her grandchildren, Abby and Hannah were her shining lights and held a very special place in her heart. She was a co-leader of Bradley Brownie Troop 767, which her granddaughter belonged. She enjoyed many crafts including ceramics, knitting, and scrapbooking. She had recently completed a beautiful scrapbook for Abby. She enjoyed gardening and going on motorcycle rides. Brenda’s caring nature was extended to those less fortunate as she organized a fundraising campaign each Christmas season to provide gifts and food to local families. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, John Sibley Sr.; her mother, Anna Thurston of Stillwater; son, John Sibley Jr. and his wife, Dana, of Bradley; daughter, Tanya Sibley and her boyfriend, Ryan Lucas, of Foxboro, Mass.; granddaughters, Abigail and Hannah Sibley of Bradley; two sisters, Carole Gardner of Old Town and Lois Madden and her husband, Stephen, of Greenbush; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a special friend, Barbie Nadeau. She was predeceased by her father, Ora Thurston Jr.; brother-in-law, Stephen Gardner and mother-in-law, Fern Stoddard. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Loriann Shay, Sarah Trask and Barbie Nadeau for making Brenda’s last days comfortable and special. Brenda was never alone as close friends and family, especially her mother and husband, were always with her. The benefit dinner for Brenda scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at the Knights of Columbus Hall is still on and the family invites everyone to attend. Donations may be made in support of the Sibley Family, P.O. Box 76, Stillwater, ME 04489. Friends may call from 1 p.m. Friday until time of the service. A celebration of Brenda’s Life will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., with Pastor Ron Chaffee, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawndale Cemetery. Immediately following the service at the Cemetery, all are invited to the Stillwater Federated Church fellowship hall for a light luncheon and continued fellowship.
