KISSIMMEE, Fla., BELMONT and BUCKSPORT – Beatrice M. Drinkwater, 90, passed away Jan. 5, 2007, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. She was born Oct. 21, 1916, in Castine, the daughter of Gilbert and Ethel (Young) Leach. Beatrice was a graduate of Castine High School and Eastern State Normal School of Castine. She was a teacher in the Bucksport school system for 18 years. She was a member of the Maine Retired Teachers Association; the National Teachers Association; a life member of Felicity Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Bucksport; an honorary life member of the Castine Grange No. 250; a member of the National Grange and the Castine Historical Society. She is survived by three children, Robert N. Mercer and wife, Laurie, of Frankfort, Deanna Rideout and husband, Ralph, of Homosassa, Fla., and Margaret Ackley and husband, Robert, of Kissimmee, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, Robbie Mercer and wife, Cherie, of Stockton Springs, Michael Mercer of Bucksport, Stacy Brooks and husband, David, of Bangor, Chrissy Baker of Belfast, Lynn Bromley of Searsport, Jill Hod-gkins and husband, John, of Stockton Springs, Jane Eaton and husband, Andrew, of Kona, Hawaii, Ann Runnells of Homosassa, Fla., Peter Rideout of Cincinnati, Karen Billela and husband, Mark, of Tampa, Fla., Lisa Soncrant and husband, Eric, of Valrico, Fla., Melissa Davis and husband, Jeff, of Stockton Springs and Matthew Mercer of Frankfort; 24 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, numerous cousins; and a special “sister,” Jean Smith of Bucksport. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, George Mercer in 1972 and Raymond W. Drinkwater in 2003. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Terri Bracy, of the Frankfort Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will be immediately after at Hillside Cemetery, East Bucksport.
