FORT FAIRFIELD and HALLOWELL – Mrs. B. Annette “Babs” Sherwood, 82, wife of Ira Sherwood, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2004, at a Bangor healthcare facility, after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 22, 1921, at Hallowell, the daughter of Alexander George “Nick” and Burneice M. (Hayes) Bourassa. She was a 1943 graduate of the Hallowell High School and was married to Ira Sherwood on June 6, 1946. Mrs. Sherwood was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church, Presque Isle, was employed as a laboratory technician at M.I.T. during World War II, was also employed at the Fort Fairfield High School as a teacher’s aid and Fort Fairfield Public Library. She was an accomplished soloist and lyricist of sheet music and had been employed as an organist and soloist by the Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield and the Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, Caribou for many years. Annette generously volunteered her time to the R.S.V.P. and the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging. In addition to her parents, Annette was predeceased by two brothers, Samuel and Sonny Bourassa. She is survived by her husband of 57 years of Fort Fairfield; three sons, Robert Sherwood and his wife, Donella, Daryll Sherwood and his fianc‚e Susan Marsh, all of Fort Fairfield, Samuel Sherwood and his wife, Deborah, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one daughter, Diane Sherwood of Fort Fairfield; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the Bethany Baptist Church, corner of Church and Second Streets, Presque Isle with Clark Jalbert officiating. Relatives and friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of services at the church. Interment will take place at the Hallowell Cemetery, Hallowell, later in the spring. A time of fellowship with refreshments will be held at the church immediately following the memorial service.
