BREWER – Anson E. Thom, 81, husband of the late Charlene (Brochu) Thom, died unexpectedly Sept. 8, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Brewer, the son of Oliver R. and Carrie B. (Billings) Thom. Anson was a graduate of Brewer High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving from France to Germany in the European Theatre. He worked as a land surveyor for many years for Prentiss & Carlisle and later for himself. Anson was a communicant of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Brewer, for many years where he was active in church life. He was a member and past commander of the Isaac E. Clewley VFW Post No. 4917, Brewer, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Pine Cone Council No. 114, Bangor, and the 4th degree assembly No. 339. Surviving are two nephews, Roger Bates of Birmingham, Ala., and David Bates of Pleasant Valley, Conn.; many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, one brother, Donald Thom; and one sister, Gertrude Bates. He will be remembered by his friend and good samaritan, Judy Kimball. Family and friends may visit 2-4 p.m. Monday, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, South Main Street, Brewer, with the Rev. Joel R. Cyr, pastor, celebrant. Burial will be at Dean Hill Cemetery, Orrington. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Knights of Columbus, care of Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer.
