BUCKSPORT – Alice J. Burpee, 78, died May 24, 2005, at a Bangor nursing facility. She was born in Bucksport, Sept. 11, 1926, the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Sheehan) McCann. She attended Bucksport High School and graduated on June 8, 1944. She worked for many years at Rosen’s Department Store. She was very active at her church, St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, and was also a member of the Duck Cove Extension Group. Two of her favorite pastimes were Beano at the Rod and Gun Club and Bucksport senior citizen functions. She is survived by two daughters, Katherine Bires and her husband, Mike, of Bucksport, Anna Burpee and her friend, Mike Reynolds, of Bucksport; one son, Robert Burpee and his wife, Amber Burpee, of Bucksport; five grandchildren, Troy Bires and his wife, Tiffani, Corey Bires and his wife, Julee, all of Bucksport, Jamie Cross and his wife, Storey, of Lamoine, Douglas and Daniel Burpee of Bucksport; three great-granddaughters, Brianna and Maggie Bires and Sage Cross; two brothers, Daniel McCann, Paul McCann, both of Bucksport; one sister, Elizabeth Duncan of Gardiner. She also leaves a lifelong best friend, Regina Smith of Bucksport. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur C. Burpee in 1994; and a sister. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, Bucksport. Interment will be in St. Vincent dePaul Cemetery. A gathering of conversation and refreshments will follow the service at Corey Bires’ home, 33 McKinnon Road, Bucksport. Arrangements by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
