William “Sonny” Everett Colson

STEUBEN – William “Sonny” Everett Colson, 99, died Sept. 21, 2008, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Feb. 14, 1909, in Sullivan, the son of James and Ida (Young) Colson. William was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 8 of Cherryfield for 64 years, Steuben Union Church and was an avid lobster fisherman. He is survived by his wife 77 years, Lillian (Beal) Colson of Steuben; two daughters, Elaine Dorr and her husband, Ed, of Stueben and Ethel Garnett and her husband, George, of Bradenton, Fla.; a special niece, Phyllis Dunning of Steuben; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a special friend, who was like a daughter, Mavis Carriganan of Stueben; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother and two sisters. A funeral service will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Steuben Union Church.
