LINCOLN, Maine — A Medford woman who was involved in a head-on crash Friday afternoon on Route 6 is still in critical condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, a hospital spokeswoman said Monday.

Susan Wass, 59, was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to EMMC after an ambulance initially took her to Penobscot Valley Hospital.

The collision occurred at about 12:50 p.m. Friday when Wass, driving a 2007 Chevy SUV, apparently crossed the centerline on Route 6 near Caribou Lane and collided with a westbound 1995 Chevy pickup truck driven by Elaine Scott, 66, of Springfield.

Scott was treated and then released from Penobscot Valley Hospital on Friday, a hospital spokesman said.

Both vehicles had deployed air bags and both drivers appeared to be wearing seat belts, Police Chief William Flagg, who is handling the investigation, said on Friday. The investigation is expected to take several weeks, he said.
