ROGER KNAPP OLIVER

HOULTON – Roger Knapp Oliver, 83, died Sept. 5, 2008, at a local health care facility. He was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Amity, the son of Omar and Virginia (Knapp) Oliver.

Roger attended Cary and Amity schools. He then joined the Army in 1944 and served with the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. After the war, he returned home and went to work as a long haul truck driver and later worked for the town of Houlton. After his retirement, Roger volunteered to drive the dialysis van to Bangor one day a week. He was a member of Houlton American Legion and VFW.

Roger is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis of Houlton; three daughters, Wanda Parks and her husband, Michael, of Houlton, Shirley Oliver of Houlton and Kathy Mooers and her husband, Albert E. IV, of Bangor; his grandchildren, Benjamin Parks and his wife, Tracy, of Fort Fairfield, Bethany Parks of Brewer, Megan Mooers of Storrs, Conn., and Kendra Mooers of Bangor; one brother Donald Oliver of Haynesville; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Houlton Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Namoi Sam’Kpakra officiating. Friends may make gifts in Roger’s memory to HRH Progressive Care Unit Activity Fund, care of Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton.
