79-year-old man drowns in Wilson Pond

GREENVILLE, Maine (AP)&nbsp- The Maine Warden Service says a Millinocket man who lost his footing while walking his boat through waist-deep water has drowned.

Wardens say 79-year-old Richard Thaxter had one arm in his boat as he struggled with his footing Saturday morning on Lower Wilson Pond in Greenville. His wife called out for help and neighbors came over to assist her get Thaxter out of the water.

Greenville Fire and Rescue and an ambulance crew worked for about an hour to revive the man. He was pronounced dead at from C.A. Dean Hospital in Greenville.
